Rob Harrington Crowned Winning Packer of Year
Rob Harrington receiving the award
Rob Harrington, has been crowned ‘Best packer - UK and Ireland’ at Crown’s annual ‘Packer of the Year’ competition. Based in London, Rob beat off stiff competition from Crown’s expert packers across the country to claim the title in the company’s fifth annual competition.
The contest, held at Crown Relocations’ Ruislip branch, brought together the best Crown packers from around the UK and Ireland to spend a day competing against each other. The participants competed in heats of two at a time, racing against each other to carefully hand wrap and pack a reproduction antique, glass-fronted Kensington cabinet among other items. They were judged on their speed and efficiency, use of correct tools and materials, manual handling and the neatness of the finished items.
The two highest scorers from the heats went onto the final round, where Rob found himself up against Birmingham based packer Lee Creswell. After a dramatic final round, Rob came out on top to claim the ‘Bob Hall Memorial Packer of the Year’ award and a prize. Rob described his tactics in the final: "I just blocked out the audience, put my head down and went for it."
Trevor Walters, Operations Training Supervisor for Crown said “All did their best and approached the contest with good humour. Everyone had great fun, and will be back to try and win next year.”
The Packer of the Year competition was introduced in 2007 to commemorate the life of Bob Hall, an employee who worked for Crown Relocations in Scotland for over 20 years. Sadly, Bob passed away in 2006 after a period of illness and it was felt that this was a fitting way to remember him.
