Crown Leaders Win Big at the Standard Chartered Marathon Leaders' Cup
On February 24, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility Jennifer Harvey once again took first place at the 17th annual Standard Chartered Marathon Leaders' Cup event, sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Hong Kong. While Harvey was determined to be the fiercest competitor at the Leaders' Cup, her father, Chairman Jim Thompson, was voted by other leaders as one of the friendliest. Thompson came in second place in the newly-introduced Best Marathon Spirit Award, which recognizes three leaders with the most positive attitude.
Last year, Harvey was the first woman to ever win the 1.8 km (1.1 mile) Leaders' Cup Race, which includes top executives and community leaders in Hong Kong. She defended her title this year in a record time of 6 minutes and 55 seconds. The first and second runners-up were Paul Forrest of ORBIS International and Douglas Woo of Wheelock Properties (Hong Kong) Limited.
After a vote from all the leaders in the Leaders' Cup, Thompson was awarded second place for the Best Marathon Spirit Award. The two other title-holders were Dr. Leong Che-hung of The University of Hong Kong and Patricia Chu Yeung Pak-yu of The Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society.
"Run for a Reason" is the global theme for all nine Standard Chartered Marathons held around the world. With a record 72,000 participants competing this year, it is the largest participatory event in Hong Kong.
