Crown Johannesburg supports the Spring of Education Program on Nelson Mandela's Birthday
Crown Relocations Johannesburg brought hope and gifts to the Spring of Education nursery school for underserved children on July 18th. The visit was to commemorate President Mandela’s birthday and to honor his eternal plea for all to champion the future of the youth of the land.
Nineteen Crown staff members visited the school, which is located in Alexandra Township in Johannesburg, South Africa, a severely underserved area with a history of unrest and political and economical hardships. The team arrived at the school with the Crown mascot, Leon the Lion, much to the delight of the children. Each child received a Crown truck gift box filled with fun items such as coloring books, crayons, candy, snacks, juice, and seasonal fresh fruit. The Crown team also pledged to continue their support of the school by sponsoring the transportation of a few children to school and back to their homes. Many of the parents cannot afford to pay the cost of transportation, and the children have missed school as a result. The monthly donation will be raised through voluntary contributions by the Crown Johannesburg team.
Kobus Jacobs, branch manager, commented, "This has been quite a humbling experience for me. These children are growing up in absolute poverty. We should support programs such as Spring of Education that help give them a chance to get out of the difficult circumstance they are in and grow up healthy and equipped to pursue their dreams."
