Crown Worldwide Group's Founder and Chairman releases his book: The Story of Crown
Entrepreneur Jim Thompson founded Crown Worldwide Group, the world’s largest privately-held group of logistics and related services companies, in 1965. To commemorate more than 50 years of history, Jim recently hosted a private book signing at The Foreign Correspondents' Club in Hong Kong. He presented his book, "The Story of Crown," to more than 50 guests including close partners and government dignitaries. Jim expressed his gratitude to those involved and his excitement to have completed his book.
The historical narrative encapsulates the ups and downs of Jim's 50-year journey within the logistics industry. With the help of author Tammie Rhee, Jim has immortalized his memories and the key individuals who have helped make Crown Worldwide the company it is today.
This remarkable story begins in a tiny cubicle in Yokohama, Japan, in 1965. The book shares the journey of how Crown developed into renowned global business with an annual turnover exceeding US$ 700m. Today, Jim is keen to pass on the lessons he learned by sharing his story of perseverance and innovation, and at times a bit of luck.
"This is something I wanted to achieve in my life. I'm one of the only Crown people alive when the company started in 1965, I'm still able to remember most of the stories," said Jim, who made a speech at the event. "I wanted to thank Tammie Rhee who has been working relentlessly with me to put this book together. Now the history of Crown is documented starting with me as a 25 year-old with an idea and US$ 500."
