A Crown UK Representative Chosen PATT Champion

Crown, an international relocations and moving services company, specializing in moving and storage, private and corporate relocation services, has been a partner of the Plant-A-Tree-Today Foundation (PATT) since 2008, through its offices in the United Kingdom. The shared goal is to combat climate change and provide economic, social and environmental sustainability through community based forestry projects in developing countries.

At a recent meeting with members of the foundation, Steve Slade was awarded the coveted "PATT Champion" award—one of only two awards to be handed out by the company each year. Slade is safety, health, environment and quality manager (SHEQ) for Crown United Kingdom and Ireland and the Champion award is given to the individual who has most successfully promoted PATT and its values, within their organization.

The champion is judged on their ability to demonstrate:

• Hard work and determination in promoting the PATT philosophy with friends and colleagues, and within their work environment.
• How they inspire others to serve and act as a role model and advocate for PATT.
• That they have a positive impact on the direction and success of PATT projects by building and fostering a relationship with PATT and encouraging others to become involved.
• Their commitment to supporting PATT projects through sponsorship or volunteerism.

Slade received his award from Debra Coombs, PATT’s country manager for the United Kingdom. He commented on winning the award, saying: "I am delighted to be recognized as a person who has made noticeable effort in gaining participation for this worthy charity. I set out several years ago looking for a carbon offset scheme that was more than a badge to wear. In terms of environmental activities, the charity had to do more. It was my aim to donate to a charitable organization with goals based on certain criteria, such as eradication of poverty, creation of sustainability, combating climate change and helping the environment through reforestation. I believe that PATT demonstrates all of the requirements, and I am happy to continue our relationship."

As part of its ongoing “Destination Green” commitment, Crown aims to offset 5000 tons of carbon, overall, by the end of the year. That will require the planting of more than 7000 trees in Thailand. Read more about Crown's involvement with PATT and Thailand here.
